Hi, I'm Kristen.
Mentor | Guru | Ass-kicker | Counselor | Speaker | Writer
I look forward to helping you on this journey of entrepreneurship. These days, no one teaches us how to run our business like a business—at least they didn’t in my law school. That's why I'm dedicated to helping business owners learn to build a profitable business and find their freedom!
At each stage of my life I have reached out and grabbed opportunities which have led to amazing experiences and even more opportunities. I’ve truly thrived in the moment.
When I sold my successful law practice, I began coaching and teaching lawyers from all across the US, and even some from overseas, how to do what I had already done: focused my business to manage it through replicable policies and procedures that allowed it to run with or without me. Within 2 years I not only doubled the business multiple times but also was finally able to take time for myself. Nothing beats a growing, profitable business and being able to spend time connecting with friends and family, sometimes at home and sometimes while visiting places I had previously only dreamed of.
Here is a peek into the experiences that formed me:
As a youth, I was no stranger to hard work. Developing responsibilities with a good work ethic was imperative in the rural Oregon setting where I was raised. I learned early entrepreneurship as a part of the family vineyard and winery.
At age 15, I studied viticulture and winemaking at Chateau La Tour Blanche near Bordeaux, France...a skill that has continued through to today but also gives me more insight about running successful businesses and selling profitable products.
During Law School, I had the opportunity to study with United States Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy in Salzburg, Austria. Justice Kennedy instilled a foundation of always looking at problems from multiple viewpoints and to always stay with integrity in your own values.
At age 30, I became a partner in Bowerman & David Law Firm where I successfully defended doctors, surgeons and lawyers in professional malpractice cases as well as developed a strong civil litigation department. I saw what happens when a small business owner does not have good systems in place and it gave me the opportunity of seeing what needs to be in place to fix the chaos that happens in small businesses that don’t have the framework to work smoothly.
During those years I was also sworn in as a pro tem judge where I have continued to periodically serve the Clackamas County Justice Court. This has given me additional perspective on the needs of small business owners.
After selling my interest in the law firm, I joined How to Manage a Small Law Firm, often speaking in front of over 400 people and working hands on with business owners to put in place the infrastructure to build stable businesses that grew year after year.
I am dedicated to helping business owners learn how to build systems so they can take time to recharge and enjoy their life because I once lived a life in the trenches of my business. One of my passions is fly fishing and I love going "off grid” (no phone, watch or electronics) and fishing at amazing places.
Along this journey I learned the importance of time...it is our most valuable asset. "Thrive in the moment" is not just a tag line, it is mantra for life.
