Reflecting Back on the Past Year

Spread the word

This has been an incredible year in many ways! There has been a lot to navigate, both professionally and personally, for everyone. Have you taken time to reflect back on the past year?

Reflection is an important part of planning. It allows us to look back, to see what worked and what didn’t. It also allows us to think through how we have dealt with the situations that have come up.

As we approach the new year, I would like to take some time to reflect back on 2020 – and look forward to 2021.

Covid-19

One of the biggest things to hit all of us this past year was Covid-19.

This virus caught us all by surprise; many were affected personally and professionally. Our world was thrown into a time of uncertainty. Each of us dealt with it the best we could.

I haven’t been able to get back to our apartment in Paris since last February, but our hearts go out to all of those in Europe, the USA and around the world who have dealt with the quarantine and this horrible virus that has taken so many.

Even with all the negative effects of Covid this year, something quite amazing has arisen. In the midst of the uncertainty and change, we have seen the true resilience of people. Whether this was seen through a musician giving a concert from their balcony for all their neighbors to enjoy or business owners finding ways to pivot and grow.

This year, we witnessed many of our clients, team members, and friends finding new ways to be resilient and thrive, even through circumstances we never would have wished to see.

Financial

This past year, Upleveling Your Business grew in some pretty amazing ways.

Our long-term goal is to provide packages to help busy business owners systematize their business and bring on the team members they need so they can find freedom. In 2020, we made a huge dent in that goal!

We released 8 Systems and Staffing Packages, each designed to save entrepreneurs dozens of hours of time and quite a bit of money. Systems are the essential foundation of your business, but that does not mean you have to waste time building them from scratch.

We also practically quadrupled our team! In January, 2020, UYB had 5 team members; last week, I hired two new coaches, which brought our team to 18.

The impact that we are making is something that both amazes me and fills me with gratitude.

Personal

2020 has also brought many changes in our personal lives, both in how we run our businesses and how we spend our time and money.

Many businesses have moved into the online space, whether out of necessity or opportunity.

A year ago, having a digital presence was seen as a good thing, but not technically necessary. A local business could still thrive through offline marketing and operations.

Suddenly, the world turned digital and most people ended up working from home, at least part time.

We also ended up buying from home. Some of these purchases were made from Amazon, others from services like DoorDash and UberEats.. Professional services saw a huge rise in teleservices and online sales, and course creators found themselves inundated. People had time on their hands, and they wanted to use it productively.

Hobbies and leisure activities also changed as people sought activities that could be done safely. This year gave us the opportunity to try some new things!

For example, I took glass-blowing classes. These classes inherently encourage social distancing, and I had a lot of fun – and made some pretty incredible projects!

However, we also saw many people change the way they budget and spend their money and time. For some, this was due to unexpected loss of income, but for others, it was due to reprioritizing.

We realized that life and goals are not certain, but that they are very much worth pursuing to the fullest.

Our Clients

One of the most incredible blessings of this year was having the opportunity to watch many of our clients grow and thrive!

Unfortunately, some of our clients – those who rely on in-person services, like dentists and med-spas – are still dealing with the effects of lockdowns and restrictions. They are finding ways to pivot and effectively serve their clients, however, and they are planning effectively for the coming year.

Many of our clients are experiencing rapid growth, however, which is fantastic to see. They are building out their systems and growing their teams, putting their plans in place for a business that allows them to live the life they truly want to live!

2020 has brought unprecedented change, but with resilience, innovation, and systems, business owners can rise above and thrive!
